The Shostakovich Journal is published twice a year
and contains articles on all aspects of Shostakovich
and his works

As well as original contributions from many writers throughout the world, the Journal carries interviews with performers closely associated with the composer, translations of material from Russian (and other languages) as well as reviews and previews of discs, books, conferences and concerts.

Recent editions have included:

- Memoirs by Tatiana Nikolaeva, Krzysztof Meyer and members (current and past) of the Borodin Quartet.

- In-depth articles on specific works and the debates surrounding his controversial memoirs, Testimony.

In addition to articles on Shostakovich, the Journal has recently broadened its range to include pieces on other major Soviet composers including A. Schnittke, G. Ustvolskaya and M. Weinberg in addition to features on prominent figures in Russian and Soviet art and politics.

Contributors have included:

- Richard Taruskin (controversial in his writings on Shostakovich), Ian MacDonald (author of the equally controversial The New Shostakovich), Gerard McBurney (composer and arranger of some of Shostakovich's "lost" works), Derek Hulme (editor of the Shostakovich Catalogue and Discography), John Riley (cinema researcher/writer), Louis Blois (U.S. music critic),
