The
Shostakovich Journal is published twice a year
and contains articles on all aspects of Shostakovich
and his works
As well
as original contributions from many writers throughout the world, the
Journal carries interviews with performers closely associated with the
composer, translations of material from Russian (and other languages)
as well as reviews and previews of discs, books, conferences and concerts.
Recent
editions have included:
- Interviews
with Irina Antonovna Shostakovich (the composer's widow), Maxim Dmitrievich
Shostakovich (the composer's son), Mme Mravinsky, Igor Oistrakh, Boris
Tishchenko, Rudolf Barshai, Yuri Temirkanov, Kurt Sanderling, Yevgeny
Svetlanov, Milos Sadlo, Sofia Khentova.
- Memoirs
by Tatiana Nikolaeva, Krzysztof Meyer and members (current and past) of
the Borodin Quartet.
- In-depth
articles on specific works and the debates surrounding his controversial
memoirs, Testimony.
In addition
to articles on Shostakovich, the Journal has recently broadened its range
to include pieces on other major Soviet composers including A. Schnittke,
G. Ustvolskaya and M. Weinberg in addition to features on prominent figures
in Russian and Soviet art and politics.
